Answers to the most common questions about character ladders, build calculations, economy pricing and how Poe Ninja works behind the scenes. If a question is not covered here, reach out through Discord.
How character data is pulled from the official ladder and why some characters may not appear right away.
Build overviews use the official Path of Exile ladder API, which lists only the top characters ranked by experience or by Solo Delve depth. If a character falls outside that ranked range, it will not appear in the overview yet.
To check the level, experience, or delve depth currently required to be listed:
The same principle applies in Path of Exile 2. The site reads from the official Path of Exile 2 ladder, which only returns the top ranked characters by experience for the selected league.
To check the current threshold:
The character API occasionally reports a secondary weapon set as the primary one. Because builds vary so widely, automatically detecting which weapon set actually represents the main skill is genuinely difficult, and this remains a known limitation of the underlying data rather than a display choice on the site.
Ladder snapshots are pulled at intervals throughout the day rather than continuously, since the official ladder itself only updates periodically. A character that just reached the ranked threshold may take some time to appear after their first qualifying snapshot.
How damage figures are calculated and how to inspect or export the exact configuration behind any listed build.
Damage figures are generated using the Path of Building community fork, the same open source tool most build guides reference for theory crafting.
The calculation attempts to approximate damage against a standard high level boss target, since that is the comparison most players use when judging build strength. This generally means including modifiers that consistently apply against such a target, such as effects that trigger on hit, while excluding situational modifiers like effects that only trigger on kill.
To see the exact configuration applied to a specific character, use the export option on that build to generate a Path of Building code, then import it directly into the program. The current configuration rules are also documented separately for anyone wanting the full technical breakdown.
Path of Exile is extremely complex, and configuring an external calculator to correctly model every possible build interaction is far from a solved problem. Constructive suggestions on improving the configuration rules are always welcome through the Discord server.
Yes. Every character listed in the build overviews includes a one click export that generates a shareable Path of Building code, which can be pasted directly into the program to load the full passive tree, items, skill links and ascendancy together.
How prices are calculated, why they move quickly, and how to interpret values across different leagues.
Prices are recalculated continuously from live public stash tab listings, so a sudden shift in supply, a balance change, or a newly discovered crafting method can move a value within hours. This is normal behavior for a fully player driven economy rather than a tracking error.
Every league runs its own independent economy starting from zero. Standard accumulates value across years of carried over wealth, while a fresh challenge league reflects only the current season, so the two are never directly comparable.
Raw listings are filtered through statistical analysis before a final value is published, removing price fixed entries and extreme outliers that would otherwise distort the result. The published price reflects what is actually being traded rather than the highest or lowest asking price on the market.
Items with variable rolls, corruption outcomes, or links are tracked as separate variants rather than blended into a single average, so two copies of the same base item can carry meaningfully different prices depending on their specific attributes.
Account linking, streamer listings and other questions that do not fit a specific data category.
A Path of Exile account needs to be linked to a Twitch account through the official Path of Exile website. After that, the account must either appear on the official ladder or be logged in directly on the site, and currently needs to meet the follower threshold set on Twitch.
No. Poe Ninja is an independent third party tool that reads publicly available data through official Path of Exile APIs. It is not developed, endorsed, or maintained by Grinding Gear Games.
