The Order That Saves Time
Most people open the builds section and start clicking characters at random, which is exactly backwards. The section is built to be narrowed, then questioned, then read, then exported, in that order. Each step shrinks the problem for the next one. Skip to the end and you are exporting builds you have not understood from a list you have not filtered. Here is the sequence worth making a habit.

Narrow Before You Browse
The filters are the whole game. Before you look at a single character, cut the list down by the things that define your build: the class and ascendancy, the main skill, a defining unique item, a keystone. Most importantly, set the league and mode, because a character from the wrong dataset is a character from a different game. Sorting Answers A Question, So Have One
Sorting is only useful if you know what you are asking. Sorting by level or experience surfaces the characters who pushed a build the furthest, which is what you want when you are looking for a proven endgame setup. The default popularity order answers a different question, which is what most people are running right now. Neither is the right sort in the abstract. Decide the question first, then pick the sort that answers it, rather than reshuffling the list and hoping something jumps out.
Understand The Character, Then Decide
With a short, sorted list, open the best few and actually read them. Take each one in five quick passes: the class and ascendancy, the main skill and its links, the keystones, the defensive layers, and finally the expensive items that carry the build. Export Only What You Have Chosen
Now the payoff. The export button hands the character to Path of Building, where you can see the real numbers, set the conditions to your own fight, and test changes before spending anything. Export is the moment a listing becomes a plan you can build toward, which is exactly why it belongs at the end of the process and not the start. Export one build you have read, not ten you have not.
The Filters Worth Knowing
You do not need every filter every time, but a few do most of the work. These are the ones that turn the section from a firehose into a tool.
Set the league before you touch anything else
Every other filter, sort and export is meaningless if the league is wrong. It is the first thing to set and the easiest to forget. If you are unsure which dataset you should be on, the League Selector names it for you in a few clicks.
The Time-Wasters To Drop
- Exporting before filtering. Reading builds one by one out of the full list is how an hour disappears with nothing to show for it.
- Sorting without a question. Reshuffling and hoping is not a method. Decide what you are asking, then sort for it.
- Ignoring the league filter. The single most common way to spend time studying the wrong dataset entirely.
- Copying the top character unread. The flashiest build is usually the best-funded, not the best fit. Read it first, as in the character listing guide.
- Browsing endlessly instead of narrowing. The section rewards a tight filter far more than a long scroll.
The Builds Section In Path Of Exile 2
