Two games, two economies, two ladders, and two sets of numbers that look identical and mean different things. This covers what actually differs when you are reading the data, and which guides you need for which.
Plenty of places will compare these games on combat, story or which is more fun. That is not this. This site is about reading economy and build data, so what matters here is narrower and more concrete: where the numbers come from, how deep the sample is, and which of your instincts carry across.
The short answer is that fewer of them carry across than you would expect, and the single biggest difference is one almost nobody mentions.
Build data in both games comes from the official ladder, and the ladder returns a capped number of entries. Those caps are not close to each other.
Deep enough that popularity figures describe something real, and that filtering by class or keystone still leaves a meaningful sample behind.
One fifteenth of the window. Filter that by class and skill and you are frequently reasoning from a few dozen characters, which is a different kind of claim entirely.

This changes how much weight a Path of Exile 2 build overview can carry. A skill sitting at eight percent of a thousand-character sample is eighty characters. That is enough to notice a pattern and nowhere near enough to call it a meta. The same eight percent in Path of Exile is twelve hundred characters, which is a genuine signal.

If you have played one and are starting the other, this is the useful question. Some of what you know is fully portable, some needs adjusting, and some is actively misleading.
Listing count as the confidence figure, variants priced separately, change percentages describing the past rather than the future, league scope mattering before anything else. The economy guides apply to both games without amendment.
Not anchoring on the summary, valuing your own time, avoiding the cheapest stale listing, naming the rounding before the window opens. Human error is identical in both games — see trading mistakes.
Both games have a launch spike and a supply flood, but Path of Exile 2's timings are less settled and its late-league behaviour is not yet well established. The shape still applies; the exact weeks do not.
The reading method is the same, but the sample is fifteen times smaller in Path of Exile 2. Treat popularity figures there with proportionally more caution, and compare more characters before concluding anything.
A chaos orb in one game holds no relationship at all to a chaos orb in the other. Exchange rates, item values and relative worth all have to be relearned from scratch, as covered in the currency guide.
Scarcity comes from drop restrictions and mechanics that differ entirely between the games. An item type that is a chase piece in one may be routine in the other, and the intuition is worse than useless because it feels reliable.
Most of what is on this site is about method rather than specifics, which means it holds for both. A few pages are game-dependent, and they are marked.

A mature economy with over a decade of precedent, and a ladder deep enough that build data still means something after filtering.
A younger economy that still moves sharply between patches, and a build sample drawn from a far narrower slice of the ladder.
Concepts overlap between the two, but the process rarely does. Keeping each guide to one game means you never have to work out which half of a page applies to you.
