Regret Orb Recipes & Passive Respec Strategies (All 4 Methods)

Regret Orb recipes shown through a passive tree point being refunded

You misallocated eleven passive points chasing a keystone that turned out to be wrong for your build, and the honest fix costs currency you have probably been ignoring in your stash tab this entire league. Regret Orb recipes exist specifically for this moment, and most players only ever learn one of the four real methods to get them, usually the slowest one, because nobody walks through all four side by side.

Method One: Monster and Chest Drops

Orbs of Regret drop from the global currency pool, meaning any monster, chest, or strongbox in the game has a small chance to produce one. This is a passive form of orb of regret farming every player already benefits from without doing anything differently. Still, it is also the slowest of the four Regret Orb recipes on its own, since the drop rate is low enough that relying on it exclusively means accumulating only a handful across a normal leveling run.

Passive respec poe players do through drops alone works fine for small corrections, one or two misplaced points, but breaks down fast if you need a larger pivot, ten or more points, since waiting on random drops for that volume can take far longer than the other three methods combined.

Method Two: The Vendor Recipe

The regret orb vendor recipe runs through Yeena in Act 2’s Forest Encampment, who sells Orbs of Regret in exchange for Orbs of Scouring at a fixed rate. This is the most consistent of the four Regret Orb recipes precisely because it does not depend on luck, only on how many Orbs of Scouring you are willing to trade away, which are themselves common enough to farm or buy cheaply.

Checking Yeena’s stock every time you level a new character is worth building into a habit specifically because it costs nothing but a few seconds, and a small running stockpile from this regret orb vendor recipe alone covers most early-game correction needs without ever touching the drop pool or trading with other players.

Method Three: Quest Rewards

Several story quests reward passive skill refund points directly, effectively functioning as free Regret Orbs tied to particular milestones rather than currency you have to farm or trade for. These add up to a meaningful number of refund points across a full campaign playthrough, and they are the only method of the four that costs nothing at all: no currency, no trading, no farming, just story progress you are completing anyway.

Ascendancy respec cost is where quest rewards matter less, since refunding an Ascendancy passive point specifically costs five Orbs of Regret rather than one, a detail that catches players off guard when they assume ascendancy respec cost works the same way standard tree points do. Quest reward refund points typically apply to the standard tree, not Ascendancy points, so budget your Orb of Regret supply separately if an Ascendancy pivot is actually what you need.

Method Four: Divination Cards and Trading

Orb of Regret farming through divination cards works through specific sets, The Innocent and Vinia’s Token among them, that convert into Regret Orbs once completed. This method sits between the vendor recipe and open market trading in terms of effort, since it requires farming the specific cards rather than a guaranteed conversion, but rewards a meaningful lump sum once a set completes rather than a slow trickle.

For the vast majority of players past the early game, straightforward trading is genuinely the most efficient of all four Regret Orb recipes, since Orbs of Regret are cheap relative to most other currency. The time spent farming any of the first three methods directly often costs more in opportunity than simply buying what you need and spending that farming time on higher-value currency instead.

Building an Actual Passive Respec Strategy

Book of reform poe recipes deserve a specific mention here, since they represent a different kind of respec entirely. All four of the Book of Reform recipes require 20 Orbs of Regret, combined with an amulet, which lets you change your Act 2 bandit quest reward retroactively, a genuinely useful option for characters who picked the wrong bandit choice early and want to correct it without rerolling the character entirely.

Passive respec poe planning works best when you separate small corrections from large pivots before choosing a method. Small corrections, five points or fewer, are usually cheap enough to buy outright or cover from quest rewards and drops you already have sitting in your stash, the cheapest form of passive respec poe planning available. Large pivots, changing a build’s entire tree direction, are almost always worth buying in bulk through trading rather than grinding out any of the other three methods manually, since the currency cost is small relative to the time saved.

Quick Checklist — Choosing a Regret Orb Method

  • Rely on monster and chest drops passively, but do not depend on them for anything beyond minor corrections.
  • Check the regret orb vendor recipe stock at Yeena regularly, trading Orbs of Scouring for a steady, guaranteed supply.
  • Complete story quests for their free refund points; they cost nothing beyond progress you are already making.
  • Remember, quest reward points apply to the standard tree, not Ascendancy points, where ascendancy respec cost runs five Orbs each.
  • Farm The Innocent or Vinia’s Token divination card sets if you want a lump sum conversion method.
  • Buy Orbs of Regret through trading for any large pivot; it is usually the most time-efficient option.
  • Use a book of reform poe recipe if you need to change your Act 2 bandit choice retroactively.
  • Separate small corrections from large pivots before deciding which of the four methods actually fits.

Orb of Regret farming and Regret Orb recipes are not complicated once you see all four side by side. Even a book of reform poe recipe is really just an extension of the same currency you already understand. The mistake most players make is not picking the wrong method; it is never learning there were three others worth comparing against the one they happened to stumble into first.
